Our oil
Physsis olive oil is handcrafted in Greece from the southwestern Peloponnese, and in particular in the region of Kalamata. Each olive tree has its own character born from the peculiarities of the climate and the local terroir, which also gives the oil its unique colors.
The taste of extra virgin olive oil from this region has a strong flavor and aroma, as well as an exceptional green color that sets it apart from other olive oils from southern Europe. This extra virgin oil is produced in a traditional way that preserves its natural taste and nutritional qualities.
Our roots
My brother, sisters and I were raised in Switzerland by a Greek father and a German mother. During the summers, while visiting loved ones in Greece, we fell deeply in love with the natural beauty and the lively spirit of the country. Yet, back in the misty pastures of Switzerland, the part of Greece that I miss the most is not the gentle rhythm of life in tune with nature and proximity to the sea, it is the taste of his food.
Many foodies have praised the unparalleled freshness and simplicity of Greek cuisine. Today, especially in the growing wake of hyper-conscious eating trends for macrobiotic health, Greek cuisine is reaching new heights of stardom as an essential Mediterranean diet with far from mythological health benefits. However, for me it has always been much easier than that, and much closer to home. The whole cycle of food, from its provision, to its cooking and finally to its consumption, revolves around the family.
We own olive trees in the Peloponnese which come from the home village of my grandparents, my grandmother comes from a family that makes wine in Ilion Attiki, my cousin produces honey in Evia and I am still at the search for traditional recipes that have flowed from generation to generation.
Family ties intensify with the time spent at the table and especially through the flavors tasted which leave indelible memories. This is why I created Physsis, a selection, assembly service in Greece and packaging and distribution in Switzerland by sourcing only from nearby and reliable Greek producers, so that you can also discover the best flavors of Greece.
